A Town Built Around Its Schools
Union Township's Lakeville built its identity around its schools as much as anything else: 13 one-room schoolhouses served the area into the 1890s before consolidating in 1898, and the Old Lakeville High School that followed in 1931 was significant enough to earn National Register of Historic Places listing in 1991.
Moisture Barriers the Consolidation Era Lacked
Lakeville's oldest surviving buildings, including the National Register-listed 1931 high school, predate modern humidity and moisture-barrier standards by decades -- crawl spaces and basements in homes from that same consolidation-era building wave often need closer attention to ventilation and moisture control than more recently built Union Township homes.
